Whether you're buying organic coffee beans or going to your local cafe for a fresh cup of brew, take note that there are more drinks out there besides your typical cup of Americano. Throughout the course of this brief article, you will learn about a few coffee drinks derived from regions across the world that you absolutely must try.
Espresso has long been popular in Italy and continues to gain a foothold in the United States. Espresso is for those individuals who need an instant dose of energy in order to get their day going. Espresso is a concentrated "shot" of caffeine that can be imbibed in a single gulp. This drink isn't exactly for those who enjoy a lazy day around the cafe, but rather, for those on the go who desperately need a bit of energy.
This is not to be confused with cafe au lait, or coffee with milk. Rather, coffee milk is actually milk infused with a syrup that uses coffee beans as its base. This is a regional drink that you can often times find in parts of New England, namely Rhode Island. Those who are fond of dairy products or do not need a heavy amount of caffeine to get their day going may enjoy this coffee oddity.
Cafe au Lait
Cafe au lait is not merely coffee with milk, but it refers to a distinctly French way of preparing coffee. Good quality beans are used in the construction of this coffee drink, and it is important that they are coarsely ground. Put the coffee in your French press then pour in the water that is directly off the boil, cover it, and let it wait for upwards of five minutes. Afterwards, add in the milk and a bit of sugar.
Despite its name, a Marocchino's origin is not from Morocco, but rather, much like espresso, comes from Italy. Its name is derived from the fact that its color resembles a variety of light brown leather known as Marocchino. It is an incredibly rich and sweet coffee drink and is often considered a dessert rather than something to start your day with. A good Marocchino construction consists of cocoa powder, milk froth, and, of course, a shot of espresso. This cup can be served frothy, with plenty of cocoa added, or a bit thinner, with the milk evening out the strong taste.
